VALDOSTA – Staff with the Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District focused their skills on child car seat safety this month.

CHICAGO – Last year 2,500 children from all around the Chicagoland area were safe and sound thanks to a life-saving car seat program between Stroger Hospital – a Cook County Health and Hospitals System (CCHHS) affiliate – and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Check To Protect is a national campaign to encourage drivers to check the recall status of their vehicle and have open recalls fixed immediately. Led by the National Safety Council and founding coalition partner, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the campaign is focused on drivers of vehicles five years old or older and drivers of used cars.

Eight staff members from across the 10-countydistrict received their certifications to become Child Passenger SafetyTechnicians. To receive their certifications, each participant took part in afour-day course that concluded with a hands-on car seat check event.

As Child Passenger Safety Technicians, theywill work with families to teach themthe correct way to choose and install their child’s car seats.

Thiscertification goes hand-in-hand with the recently announced Child Passenger Safety Mini-Grant program thathelps connect eligible families with car seats and booster seats at no cost.
