Nagios is a free and open-source monitoring tool which helps us to monitor the services and applications. Also, we can monitor network devices such as routers and switches.

Nagios comes with the inbuilt web interface to monitor devices, but you need to rely on configuration files for adding devices to Nagios monitoring.

Hi After the CentOS 8 release I been looking for the minimal iso image which I could not find. Is this been removed or will it be added later? We Love CentOS. Since DVD capacity is 4.7 GiB how is it possible to download centOS 8 and create a bootable DVD when the centOS (ISO )is 8 GiB? Must a USB pin drive be used? Also, I read the article on RUFUS, and it seems that to download and use RUFUS it’s necessary to use a Windows machine, is this correct. How to Install Nagios 4.4.5 on RHEL/CentOS 8.

We will now go through the installation of Nagios on CentOS 7.

Prerequisites

Install below packages for Nagios.

Create a user and group account for the Nagios installation.

Add both nagios and apache user to nagcmd group. This allows us to execute external commands through the Nagios web interface.

Download Nagios

You can use below commands to download Nagios core (v4.4.3) and Nagios plugins(v2.2.1). Else, you can visit the official website to download the latest version of Nagios core and plugins.

Install Nagios Core

Extract the Nagios core package.

Run the series of command to compile and install Nagios core.

Install Nagios Web Interface

Execute the below command in the terminal to install Nagios web interface.

You need to protect the Nagios web interface by creating a user account (nagiosadmin).

Remember the password that you set to this user – you will need it later.

Restart Apache service.

Configure Nagios

Sample configuration can be found /usr/local/nagios/etc directory. These sample files would be enough for getting started with Nagios.

But, you would need to make one change before you proceed.

Edit /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/contacts.cfg config file and change the email address of nagiosadmin contact definition to the address you would like to use for receiving alerts.

Install Nagios Plugins

Extract the download Nagios Plugins.

Use below commands to compile and install the Nagios plugins.

Start Nagios Server

Check for any errors in the Nagios configuration file.

Things look okay - No serious problems were detected during the pre-flight check

If you don’t see any errors, then you are good to start the Nagios service.

Start Nagios on system startup.

SELinux

See if SELinux is in Enforcing mode.

We recommend it to disable it.

You need to modify the settings in /etc/selinux/config to make it permanent. Then reboot the machine.

Firewall

Make sure you allow the web server to be accessible outside the network.

Access Nagios Web Interface

You can access the Nagios web interface using the following URL.

Enter the username and password:

You would get the Nagios console.

Click Hosts in the left pane to get a list of systems being monitored by Nagios. We haven’t added any host to Nagios, So it simply monitors the localhost itself.

Click Service in the left pane to get the status of any services that are being monitored with Nagios.

Conclusion

You have successfully setup Nagiosmonitoring tool on CentOS 7. At this moment, Nagios monitors only the services of Nagios server. In our upcoming article, we will configure Nagios to monitor Remote Linux System.

The CentOS team strives to permit minimal installs with just CD 1 of a given series, but this is not always possible. Download film mohabbatein sub indo. You have to force an install of python-sqlite from the CentOS 5 repositories after the upgrade, as the version number of python-sqlite didn't change between 4 and 5.

This is a 'general' guideline for a CentOS 4.4 Server CD install upgrade via yum.

YMMV with additionally installed RPMS and RPMS from third party Repositories.

I did a fresh install of the x86_64 Server 4.4 CD (everything) for this migration test.

Now that I have a CentOS 4.4 install, I will begin the migration to CentOS 5 via yum.

Check for centos-yumconf

* If centos-yumconf exist, remove it.

* NOTE this seems to be only installed if you installed from the x86_64 version of the ServerCD 4.4 ISO.

Installing needed RPMS manually

I used wget to acquire the RPMS.

Install centos-release-5-0.0.el5.centos.2.x86_64.rpm centos-release-notes-5.0.0-2.x86_64.rpm

# Make sure you disable all other repos and only have CentOS Base and Updates repositories enabled.

Install the CentOS 5 GPG Key

# Get the GPG key from a mirror or CentOS 5 media.

# Clean yum files

# Remove deps/outdated packages

Note: You can run yum upgrade to help find deps that you need to remove.

Install new CentOS 5 kernel

# If you are getting the new kernel via wget you need to do the following first.

Remove old CentOS 4 kernel(s)

remove 2.6.9 bits

Upgrade the system to CentOS 5

# Install removed packages that were not reinstalled

  • cd /tmp

# Generate list of RPMS on the system after upgrade to see what old RPMS are left

# Reboot system

# Login and you should be on CentOS 5
